UAE new-economy companies

UAE new-economy companies have reached nearly 125,000, marking a 37% increase from the previous year and highlighting the country’s growing focus on artificial intelligence, fintech, green technology and innovation. The latest figures were disclosed by UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri on October 7, 2026.

The growth reflects the UAE’s continued efforts to diversify its economy beyond traditional sectors and establish itself as a global hub for technology, entrepreneurship and knowledge-driven businesses.

UAE’s New-Economy Sector Records Strong Growth

According to the latest figures, the number of new-economy companies operating in the UAE reached almost 125,000 by the end of the first half of 2026, representing approximately 37% year-on-year growth.

The new-economy category includes businesses built around technology, knowledge and innovation. Key areas include artificial intelligence, digital services, e-commerce, financial technology, renewable energy, green technologies, digital media and smart mobility.

The expansion demonstrates the increasing role of technology-driven businesses in the UAE’s economic development and diversification strategy.

AI Emerging as a Major Growth Driver

Artificial intelligence is becoming one of the most important components of the UAE’s new-economy strategy. Rather than treating AI as a standalone industry, UAE officials are increasingly highlighting its potential to improve productivity across multiple sectors.

AI applications are being developed across manufacturing, logistics, financial services, tourism and energy. The objective is to use advanced technology to improve efficiency, create new businesses and support higher-value economic activity.

The UAE is also attracting international technology companies, investors and startups as it develops its AI ecosystem. The AI Everything Abu Dhabi 2026 event, held on October 6–7 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, brought together technology companies, investors, policymakers and startups focused on real-world AI applications.

Investment in AI and Digital Infrastructure

The country’s technology ambitions are also reflected in investment in financial and digital infrastructure.

The Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) is investing more than AED 400 million through 2029 to expand AI capabilities, strengthen digital infrastructure and modernise regulatory and operational systems.

This investment comes as Abu Dhabi’s financial ecosystem continues to expand, creating opportunities for fintech companies, asset managers and technology-driven financial businesses.

UAE Strengthens Its Position as a Global Business Hub

The growth of new-economy companies is closely linked with the UAE’s broader We the UAE 2031 economic agenda. The national strategy aims to strengthen the country’s position as an attractive destination for investment, talent, entrepreneurship and international business.

The UAE is also increasingly looking beyond its domestic market. Investopia, the UAE-backed investment platform, has expanded its international engagement, including a stronger focus on Africa and opportunities involving infrastructure, industrial development, financing and investment corridors.

The country’s outward investment activity further supports its position as an international capital and business hub.

What This Means for Startups and Businesses

The rapid increase in new-economy companies creates opportunities for startups and established businesses operating in technology-related sectors.

Businesses working in AI, fintech, e-commerce, renewable energy, digital services and smart technologies may benefit from the UAE’s expanding ecosystem of investors, accelerators, technology companies and government initiatives.

For entrepreneurs, the development also signals growing demand for solutions that can improve business productivity, automate operations and address emerging challenges across industries.

UAE’s Economic Diversification Continues

The rise to nearly 125,000 new-economy companies represents another major step in the UAE’s economic diversification journey. With AI, digital transformation and innovation becoming increasingly important to businesses, the country is positioning technology as a central component of future economic growth.

As investment in AI infrastructure and technology ecosystems continues, the UAE is expected to remain an important destination for startups, investors and companies looking to expand across the Middle East and global markets.

The latest growth figures underline a broader shift in the UAE economy: technology, innovation and knowledge-based businesses are becoming increasingly important drivers of economic activity and future growth.
