Moldova Visa Rules: Indian, Pakistani & Bangladeshi Expats in UAE Still Require Visa Despite UAE-Moldova Exemption Deal

In a recent diplomatic development, the United Arab Emirates and Moldova visa have officially signed a mutual visa exemption agreement, allowing UAE citizens to travel to Moldova without requiring a visa. The agreement was finalized following a meeting between Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, and Mihai Popșoi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova.

The move is aimed at enhancing bilateral relations, promoting tourism, and expanding economic, commercial, and investment cooperation between the two nations. The visa-free entry for Emiratis marks a significant step toward stronger people-to-people connections and diplomatic ties.

However, the agreement does not apply to expats residing in the UAE.

Expats from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh Still Need Visas

Despite the landmark agreement between the UAE and Moldova, Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi nationals residing in the UAE are not covered by the visa exemption deal. These nationals are still required to obtain a visa before traveling to Moldova.

According to an official statement from Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nationals of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh must also hold an airport transit visa even if they are simply passing through a Moldovan airport’s international transit zone. This condition applies regardless of their residency status in the UAE.

Invitation Letters Mandatory for Pakistani and Bangladeshi Nationals

The Moldovan ministry further clarified that citizens of Pakistan and Bangladesh are required to present an official invitation for the issuance of an entry visa. This requirement is not waived even if the applicant is a resident of the UAE. The invitation must come from a Moldovan citizen or a foreigner who holds a valid Moldovan residence permit.

Moldova Visa Costs: What UAE Expats Need to Know

For UAE-based expats who do require a visa to Moldova, the visa fees are relatively straightforward. As per the Moldovan consular information:

  • Airport Transit Visa: €20
  • Short-Stay Tourist Visa: €30

Additional categories such as business visas, private visit visas, transport-related visas, sports, and cultural activities may carry different fee structures. These visas allow short-term stays for specific purposes and must be applied for prior to travel.

This update is crucial for frequent travelers, tour operators, and UAE-based South Asian communities considering Moldova as a destination for leisure or business.
